Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa proposed to the Government not to proceed with the proposed Parliamentary sessions from today, August 16, due to the risk with the country’s deteriorating COVID-19 situation.

He said all possible measures to eliminate the COVID pandemic situation should be taken by the Government immediately with the help of all MPs with one objective of stopping this fast-spreading variants and protect the lives of humans.

Opposition Leader Premadasa inquired from the Government why the invaluable services of some professional medical specialists have been sidelined at this crucial moment since their professional services must also be taken to stop spreading this virus.

“See the increasing number of our people who die due to this virus every day in the country and it is unbelievable why the government authorities have not yet taken any action to take precautionary measures in this regard,” he said.

The Opposition Leader also said, “Take the example from the Canadian Government as they have already had additional vaccines to be used in emergency situations and why our country was unable to do so as our responsible MPs went behind various fake solutions to fight against this virus”.

He noted that this situation resulted a large number of citizens in our country have not even taken a single vaccine up to now. The Opposition Leader said he requested foreign ambassadors in the country to help and they too agreed to extend their support to Sri Lanka
