A five-year plan will be implemented to develop Sri Lanka’s tourism industry facing challenges posed during the pandemic and post pandemic periods, Tourism Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga said.
Under this tourism strategic plan, measures will be taken to revive tourism for the next five years with a long term view towards the tourism vision in 2025.
Minister Ranatunga made these remarks when he met Ukraine tourism and travel organisation representatives at the Ukraine Hilton hotel yesterday, September 12.
The Minister is currently on an official visit to Ukraine to participate in a tourism promotional campaign organised by the Tourism Development Authority together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
The Minister thanked the tourism and travel organisation representatives for their support to implement the pilot project of bringing Ukrainian tourists to Sri Lanka under the travel bubble during the pandemic.
Under this project, 2,258 Ukraine, Russian and Kazakhstan tourists have visited Sri Lanka and only nine tourists among them have tested positive for the COVID-19.
