The Winners of Avurudu Kumaraya (New Year Prince) and Avurudu Kumariya (New Year Princess) contest at the “New Year in Paradise 2023” organized to provide an experience of the National New Year traditions to foreign tourists, awarded air tickets to Singapore

The “New Year in Paradise 2023” New Year festival, which provided foreign tourists visiting the country with experiences of local cultural traditions related to the National New Year, was held on Saturday (15) at Unawatuna beach under the guidance of Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara.

The Winners of Avurudu Kumaraya (New Year Prince) and Avurudu Kumariya (New Year Princess) contest were awarded air tickets to Singapore courtesy the Sri Lankan airlines.

The New Year festival was embellished with many cultural elements and games related to the New Year and a large number of tourists participated in the events very enthusiastically.

Many traditional New Year competitions were organized for the foreigners like hitting a hanging pot while blindfolded, placing the eye on the elephant, climbing the greasy pole, and cultural performances etc.

Foreign tourists enthusiastically participated in the New Year’s Prince and Princess Selection contest and the New Year’s Prince and Princess were awarded two-way air tickets from Colombo to Singapore and back.
Apart from this, special awards were also given to the contestants who appeared in the competition dressed in local attire.
At the end of the New Year festival, a special musical concert was also organized for foreign tourists.
