Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021 Offers Insights on Leveraging Opportunities for Revival

The foremost and most anticipated economic event of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021 continues for the second successive day on December 7th, under the theme ‘Springboard for revival: Opportunity to reset’.

Day one of the Summit delivered on expectations, with a high-profile line-up of speakers and panelists generating insightful and thought provoking discussions on setting a sustainable course for Sri Lanka’s economic revival and development, including the urgent need for a more holistic and long-term economic policy.

Today’s sessions will focus on leveraging Sri Lanka’s resources and capabilities in order to position the country as a viable commercial and technology hub, exploring avenues to enhance the export portfolio and dollar revenue as well as reviving the tourism industry in the context of a new normal for travel.

Mr. Madu Ratnayake – EVP, Chief Information Officer and General Manger, Virtusa, and Ms. Sandra De Zoysa – Chairperson, SLASSCOM, will address the summit on the topic of Charting a Path Towards a Technology Hub. Professor Ricardo Hausmann – Director of the Growth Lab at Harvard’s Center for International Development and the Rafik Hariri Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard Kennedy School will speak on Resetting the Export Portfolio. Mr. Ashish Shah – Director, Division of Country Programmes, International Trade Centre, will present on New Instruments – Springboards for Exports, while Mr. Steve Saxon – Partner, McKinsey & Company will present during the final session of the summit, on Survival to Recovery: Reviving Tourism Inflows.  Many eminent panelists and experienced moderators will join the panel discussions that will follow the presentations in each session.

The Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021(SLES 2021) held on 6th and 7th December is a hybrid summit catering to participants who would join online as well as participate in-person at the Shangri-La Hotel.  The theme for the 21st Sri Lanka Economic Summit is based on creating an environment that will be a Springboard for Revival, leveraging on the Opportunity to Reset.
