State Minister of Money and Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms, Ajith Nivard Cabraal said more people are beginning to view Sri Lanka as a very important destination in which they can make use of in the future.
We are confident that we will record a GDP growth which is quite substantial for the next few years. Through the Sri Lanka Investment Forum 2021 held from June 7 – 9, we wanted to make it an open invitation to investors all over the world, not necessarily only from one country to invest in Sri Lanka,” the Minister said yesterday, June 12.
“Some people were trying to say that we are only having investors from a particular country. It is not so. We have made it very clear that we want investors from all over the world to invest in Sri Lanka,” he said.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who delivered the keynote address at the Sri Lanka Investment Forum 2021, invited investors across the world to join in a transformational journey by investing in Sri Lanka.
State Minister Cabraal also said, “The Sri Lanka Investment Forum 2021 was very positive. Many people have been very keen to learn about Sri Lanka. I think that has been a very useful message which has occurred as a result of this conference. I am very glad that more and more people are beginning to learn about Sri Lanka and to take note of it. What we are really keen on is for the people to do business with us. We don’t want people to feel sorry for us and give aid. We want people to do business with us and we are encouraging it”.
The State Minister also noted, “If we have people who can invest in our country, they can also benefit and ultimately the Government and the people can also benefit. That is the idea of organising the Sri Lanka Investment Forum 2021”.
He also highlighted, “We have political and economic stability and we are now beginning to open the country again. We have brought many opportunities for investments to be done in Sri Lanka. We have opened the Hambantota Industrial Zone. We also have a pharmaceutical zone and promote organic fertiliser manufacturing. We have many other BOI zones which are also helping people to do business”.
“We will also open the Colombo Port City. These are all possibilities for people. Therefore, it is a wide network of opportunities which we are promoting. The IT field is extremely robust and we are confident that it will attract many investments in time to come. We are inviting foreign as well as local investments in all those areas,” he said.
