Sri Lanka has welcomed 4,168 tourists in April 2021, up from zero a year earlier, with Indians leading the pack, data from the state tourism promotion office showed.
Total arrivals up to April were 13,797 against 507,311 last year, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said.
Sri Lanka allowed tourists to come under a ‘travel bubble’ concept where they have to take a series of Coronavirus tests and can visit designated tourist sites.
In April, 796 or 19 per cent of the tourists came from India. In May Sri Lanka stopped arrivals from India as the epidemic ravaged the South Asian neighbour.
China was second with 475 or 11.4 per cent of arrivals, Kazakhstan generated 440 tourists, Germany 383, the United Kingdom 334, the United States 248 and Canada 144.
The UK, US and Canada have a large Sri Lankan migrant communities.
