St. Thomas College stickers emerge Champs at Western Province tournament
St. Thomas College Mount Lavinia beat St. Joseph’s College Maradana by 2 goals to nil in the final of Western Province National Schools Hockey tournament, this was organised and conducted as a Sports festival by the Educational Zonal office, Western Province, where 15 teams participated and played at the Astro Turf recently.
In the first semi final, St. Thomas College beat St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya by 1 goal to nil and in the second semi final St. Joseph’s, Maradana beat Maris Stella, Negombo by 2 goals to nil.
In the decider of of the second runner up place, St. Peter’s beat Maris Stella, Negombo on penalty strokes ( 7 – 6 ) , where the game ended nil all at full time.
St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia took this Championship after 19 years. Head Coach H.M.C.H.Bandara and Coach B.L.V.S.Perera who are reputed Hockey players turned coaches worked tirelessly to guide them to achieve this great win.
