The 20th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – China Business Council (SLCHBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was held recently via MS Teams.
LI Guangjun, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China was the Chief Guest at the AGM.
SLCHBC was established on 26th April 2001 and formed under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The Council was formed at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the main objective of promoting trade, investment, services and tourism between Sri Lanka and China.
Aruna Perera, MAC Holdings (Pvt) Ltd was re – elected as the President of the Council for the year 2021-2022. Chaminda Perera, Director of Deranya (Pvt) Ltd was elected as the Senior Vice President and Ruwan Senaviratne, Stretchline (Pvt) Ltd was elected as the Vice President of the Council. Haroun Cader from Sinwa Holdings Limited was elected as the Treasurer. Thulitha Mendis, Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC will continue to serve on the Committee as the Immediate Past President.
In his address, Aruna Perera mentioned “Despite the many obstacles faced in the last year, I must thank the team for their resilience and the smooth execution of all the events. I assure you ladies and gentlemen, that the Council, will build on the good work done in the past and position the council to play a significant role in the development of trade and investment between Sri Lanka and China in the years ahead. The benchmark keeps improving each year and we hope to continue this trend with the new ExCo, and will no doubt achieve this with the mix of experienced and new committee members. . In these challenging conditions, we will look at how the business council could facilitate growth in trade, tourism and investment between the two countries and look forward to working with the Commercial Counsellor and other officers of the Embassy. We are confident that our fellow committee members from the Board of Investment and the Export Development Board will work with us to drive common objectives.
Abans PLC, Bank of China Colombo Branch, David Pieris Motor Company Ltd, Heritage Teas (Pvt) Ltd, South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd, Sudath Perera Associates, Acorn Aviation (Private) Ltd, John Keells Holdings PLC, Prima Ceylon (Private) Ltd and Sunshine Tea (Pvt) Ltd were elected from the membership to serve on the Executive Committee of the Council.
Due to the current pandemic situation in the country and around the world, the Council held all events for its members and other companies doing business with China as webinars during the period under review.
