Colombo 1 st October, 2021- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) together with Korea National Forensic Service, launches online training programmes on Forensic Science for Analysts in Government Analyst’s Department in Sri Lanka. The programme was launched on 29th September 2021 and will continue until 06th October.
As a partner for Sri Lanka’s efforts for social-economic development, the Korean government shares its first handed development experiences through KOICA fellowship programmes. Therefore, the main objective of this fellowship programme is to provide opportunities to enhance participant’s current technical and administrative skills, enabling participants to apply them to the country’s development.
The Republic of Korea through KOICA has been supporting the forensic science sector in Sri
Lanka since 2015 with the enhancement of the Digital and DNA facilities. In the light of the
successful completion of the Forensic Science capacity building project and training programme from 2015 to 2019, KOICA offers two more forensic science development projects including this training program to Sri Lanka for improvement of field expertise and solid cooperation. Throughout this fellowship training programme, it is expected to share the Forensic knowledge of advanced and practical analysis systems which aim to enhance the effectiveness and strengthen the reliability of the forensic science system in Sri Lanka. In addition, KOICA believes trainees will be able to share Korea’s Development experience and systematic knowledge for positive policy level changes and improvement of the respective sectors where the participants are involved in.
The opening ceremony of the training programme was graceful with the presence of the President of National Forensic Service in Korea, Mr. Park Nam-Kyu, Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka, Ms. Kang Youn Hwa and Analyst of the Government Analyst’s Department Sri Lanka, Ms. Gowri Ramanah. In his opening remarks, the president of the Korean National Forensic Service (NFS) Mr. Park Nam-Kyu highlighted that NFS scientists in Korea will join as instructors to offer high-quality forensic training to Sri Lanka. In addition, Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka while giving her congratulatory speech stated that “I believe outcomes of this online training programme would strengthen not only the capacity of the relevant trainees but also the partnership between Sri Lanka and Korea.”
The Analyst of the Government Analyst’s Department, Ms. Gowri Ramanah highly appreciated the training programme extending her deepest gratefulness to KOICA, NFS and government of Korea for the continuous support while providing opportunities to participate in the training programmes even amid the COVID pandemic situation.
