Sri Lanka’s fastest growing life insurer, Softlogic Life has taken the lead in driving mental well-being of Sri Lankans by launching a ‘Group Exit Day’ on July 22nd, furthering their commitment towards enhancing the quality of life of Sri Lankans.
The raging COVID-19 pandemic has ignited a 40% increase in social messaging applications. While such messaging groups facilitate communications between work teams and friends in a lockdown situation, there are lots of groups that remain old and inactive with only memes or spam messages continuously interrupting life.
Adding onto this is that constant ‘Ting Ting’ sound you get as the number of notifications from multiple groups keep piling on and disrupting your state of mind making it hard for you to focus on one activity.
But, despite all this people remain reluctant to leave those groups assuming that it might hurt others’ feelings even when having multiple messaging groups and getting so many notifications on a daily basis can significantly affect our mental wellbeing.
Ultimately this causes a toxic cycle of what psychologists call ‘Communication Debt’, which is a feeling of anxiety to respond to hundreds of notifications received in multiple messaging groups. While group chats have become a pivotal part of social culture, there is certainly no harm in pausing and stepping away when necessary.
In such a complex backdrop, Softlogic Life has introduced ‘Group Exit Day’ on July 22, as a dedicated day to leave from all inactive and old messaging groups for a little more peace of mind. With no intention to stop there, they have taken another step to call for the support of the public to officially instate this day as an ‘International Group Exit Day’. Now anyone can help declare this as an annual event by signing the online petition on ged.softlogiclife.lk.
“In this new era of digital interaction, group chats have become frenzied hubs of hour-by-hour activity. They are quick to steal time and energy from our real passions, families and loved ones. Experts report that constantly switching between these vastly different social spheres can tax people both psychologically and intellectually. As the wellbeing partner to the nation, we strongly believe that International Group Exit Day which we have launched on July 22nd will give us a chance every year to break away from this toxic cycle, refresh our attitudes and prioritise our mental wellbeing to function better and live our lives to the fullest. That is why we have taken the initiative to create an online petition to make this day an official day to enable people to achieve a little more peace of mind,” Softlogic Life Managing Director, Iftikar Ahamed stated.
As a brand committed towards driving a great quality of life amongst all Sri Lankans, Softlogic Life recognizes its duty to bring notice to this social tension and inspire citizens to look at ways to overcome the pandemic’s challenges, especially in terms of mental wellbeing. It is in this spirit that the company constantly strives to ignite positive change and drive timely narratives around how the nation can mitigate these social and cultural issues together.
Softlogic Life drives powerful communications on different mediums to build this solid dialogue within communities, and inspire Sri Lankans to make great choices regarding their fitness, wellness and nutrition to meet today’s challenges with resilience, positivity and perseverance.
