India will give priority to Sri Lanka when exporting its COVID-19 vaccine, said Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar yesterday, January 6, when he called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
According to the President’s Media Division, President Rajapaksa has expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured in Sri Lanka following an estimate on the requirement for treatment.
The President and the visiting Indian External Affairs Minister had agreed to further enhance Indo-Sri Lanka relations to achieve mutual benefits.
A statement from the PMD noted the discussion was centered around multiple sectors of cooperation in addition to the projects currently in operation in Sri Lanka with Indian involvement.
The East Container Terminal, LNG Power Plants, Housing and Road, Agriculture Development and Research, Communication Technology, and Renewable Energy were among the topics discussed.
Further, it was decided to convene a meeting among Indian, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Nepal in order to adopt necessary measures to revive the tourism industry.
