Vishaka Vidyalaya Student Parliament Official Badge Awarding Ceremony Held Under the Patronage of the Secretary General of Parliament

The official badge awarding ceremony for the members of the Vishaka Vidyalaya Student Parliament was ceremoniously held on June 24, 2025, at the Jeremias Dias Auditorium of the school, under the patronage of Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, the Secretary General of Parliament.

Mrs. Hashini Wijewikrama, Deputy Director of Education (Planning and Social Studies) for the Colombo Zone, and Mrs. Manomi Senewiratne, Principal of Vishaka Vidyalaya, also graced the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary General highlighted the encouraging increase in women’s participation in the country’s current social, economic, and political processes. She also took the opportunity to educate the student parliamentarians about the legislative process. Furthermore, she expressed her best wishes, emphasizing that the daughters of Vishaka Vidyalaya, as newly appointed members of the student parliament, will be able to contribute significantly to the country’s key sectors, drawing from the leadership skills gained through their school life.

Participating in the event, Principal Manomi Senewiratne expressed her pride in the leadership abilities of the students. She stressed that a good leader should have the support of a united group that works with a sense of teamwork and shared direction. She also commended the proactive efforts of the 2024/25 Student Parliament in identifying and addressing school needs. She extended her gratitude to Mrs. Dulani Priyadarshani, the Assistant Principal who led the team, and to Mrs. Anusha Ekakaye, the teacher in charge of the Student Parliament.

During the ceremony, the new Prime Minister, Speaker, and Ministers of the 2025/2026 Student Parliament received their certificates from Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, while the rest of the members were awarded their official badges by Principal Manomi Senewiratne and other faculty members.

At the end of the ceremony, a symbolic handover of the mace took place from the outgoing Speaker of the 2024/25 Student Parliament to the newly appointed Prime Minister of the 2025/26 Parliament, marking the transfer of responsibilities.
