The awarding of tokens and certificates of the Annual Sports Tournament was held on the 09th of January at the Billiard Hall of Parliament under the patronage of the Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena with the participation of the President Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The tournament was held under 06 categories. Hon. W.H.M Dharmasena, Member of Parliament won the trophy for the game of Daam. Hon. Gayashan Nawananda, Member of Parliament won the title as the runner up.
Hon. (Dr.) Gayashan Nawananda, Member of Parliament won three categories of the snooker, Chess and Carrom Championships. Waruna Liyanage, Member of Parliament won the table tennis championship.
Hon. Nalin Bandara, Member of Parliament won the runner up title in Chess and Snooker. Member of Parliament Hon. Duminda Dissanayake was emerged as the Carrom runner up whilst Hon. (Dr.) Gayashan Nawananda became the runner up in Table Tennis.
Member of Parliament Hon. Gayashan Navananda also won the trophy for game of Pool and the runner-up was Member of Parliament Hon. Duminda Dissanayake.
The annual sports tournament of Members of Parliament was held this year for the 3rd time. Mr. K. P. E Nandadeva of the Parliamentary staff contributed as the judger of competitions.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapaksa, Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Sajith Premadasa and several Members of Parliament, the Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake, Serjeant-at-Arms Mr. Narendra Fernando and many others were also present at the awarding ceremony.
