‘Better understanding among container terminals is crucial to further develop Port of Colombo as a maritime hub’

Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), Capt. Nihal Keppetipola discusses inter-terminal cooperation with the Chief Executive Officer of the South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT), Romesh David; Chief Operating Officer of the SAGT, Upul Jinadasa; and Deputy General Manager, Operations of the SAGT, Senaka Ranasinghe.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), Capt. Nihal Keppetipola  on July 1, 2021 made a special and friendly inspection tour at the private sector controlled terminals of the Port of Colombo.

Here, he visited the South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) and the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) of the Port of Colombo.

The SLPA Chairman also held discussions with Romesh David, Chief Executive Officer of the South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) Pvt Ltd. and Jack Huang, Chief Executive Officer of the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) Ltd.

At these discussions, Chairman SLPA emphasized the importance of all the terminals of the Port of Colombo working together to sustain and develop its operational status and container volume market share in the South Asia region.

He expressed his confidence that despite the current Covid-19 pandemic, he would be able to continue to make the Port of Colombo one of the world’s leading container ports and gain the global confidence in the Port of Colombo towards moving ahead in making Sri Lanka the Maritime Hub in this region.

He further said that through the strong camaraderie between the terminals of the Port of Colombo, it would be possible to provide an efficient and productive service 24/7 to the port customers of the Port of Colombo.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) also inspected the terminal operations of the SAGT and CICT. Chief Executive Officers and higher Executive Officers of the terminals also joined the occasion.
