Special operation to arrest suspects who ran-over soldiers in Omanthai

A special operation in underway to locate the suspects who ran over two Sri Lanka Army personnel who were on duty at the Omanthia Checkpoint in Vavuniya on Saturday, April 17.

Military Spokesperson, Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne said the injured soldiers were admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital for treatment.

“Between 5 PM and 6 PM, a pick-truck moving from Jaffna to Vavuniay was ordered to stop at the Omanthai Checkpoint for a routine inspection. However, the pick-up had defied the order and had run over the soldiers,” he said.

One soldier were seriously injured in the accident and the other sustained injured to his head, said the Military Spokesperson.

The pick-up truck was transporting satinwood timber and was found abandoned 20 meters away from the checkpoint, while the suspects had fled the scene.
