The Government of Sri Lanka has decided to establish COVID-19 treatment centres surrounding hotels where tourists are staying, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) said.

Tourists who are confirmed positive for the virus will be referred for treatment at these centres, where the tourists must bear the costs for treatment, Dhammika Wijesinghe, the Director-General at the Tourism Development Authority said on Wednesday, January 13.

A total of 131 hotels have been granted permission to accommodate tourists, while 36 hotels are already accommodating tourists.

The designated hotels are restricted from accommodating local visitors, Mr. Dhammika Wijesinghe reiterated.
