Undergraduates and professors from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany visited the Hambantota International Port recently to learn about the operations and contributions of the port to the industry and country.

The students were Geography majors and were keen to have an in-depth understanding on how HIP could contribute to the emerging needs of the maritime industry and were enthusiastic about the prominence HIPG gives to gender balance.

A presentation was made by the Deputy General Manager of CNM (Commercial and Marketing), Mr. Ravindra Perera on the port’s activities. The students raised several questions which were answered by the HIP team.

The students were also briefed on the port development plans to invite both local and foreign investors to start new projects and the current constructions of the luxury Yacht building plant, the fertilizer warehouse facility and the tyre manufacturing plant. The delegation had 15 students and two professors.
