Lanka Cavaliers edged out Legends of Richmond by 7 runs in a 25 over game, which was played for the Deepal Ahangama Trophy at the NCC grounds on December 12.
Lanka Cavaliers led by Nalliah Devarajan, taking first lease made 124 runs in 23.4 overs with Wasanthalal Fernando coming as an opener took control of the bowling attack to play a superb innings of 22 not out and Nalliah Devarajan playing a Captain’s knock, scored a magnificent 35 runs with Manoj Perera and Sajeewa de Silva’s contributions scoring double figures made up this total. Thushan Jayawardena and Asitha de Silva were the pick of the bowlers capturing 3 and 2 wickets.
Legends of Richmond chasing this modest total were bundled out for 118 runs with Asoka Sirimanne and C.K Hewamañna scoring 35 and 28 runs respectively and with the dismissals of these 2 batsmen and the other wickets falling at regular intervals, could not reach the target. Manoj Perera and Mahesh Wijenayake with a splendid bowling performance of 4 scalps each sealed the game for the winners.
