Australia’s state of Victoria has recorded 603 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and one death, as per news from Melbourne Australia yesterday. The death reported was a woman over 70 years of age.
According to our correspondent in Melbourne, as a result of imposing a two week lock down Hundreds of anti-vaccination protesters, many being Constructions workers have come on to the streets and have paraded the streets. Police have had it tough in trying to keep the violent demonstrators at bay.
We wonder if the demonstrators were aware that Melbourne has had over 48,000 tested out of which 600 being detected yesterday whilst over 6000 active case have been reported within the Victorian Community?. Our sources also have stated that over 60 people are in ICU with 30 being identified as ‘critical’ and are in ventilators.
It’s true that over 70% of people in Melbourne have been given at least one vaccine and over 40% have been given both doses, but should the demonstrators take it for granted and parade the streets when their state has reported many cases yesterday and have thousands identified as active cases, is a big question?. The general public, be it Construction workers or any other needs to act as responsible citizens and assist the state to mitigate the spread. With demonstrations, it makes it so much difficult for a state to execute a plan and as a result it’s the people as a whole that will have to face the repercussions.
The demonstrations have been due to shutting down of construction sites where The government says “the appalling behavior on site and on our streets” made them make the decision.
It has been reported that there are over 300,000 such Construction works who have been forced to be away from work and they being weekly wage earners are sure to have a difficult time in managing their funds and daily expenses, the reason as we see has led to such demonstrations.
As the said industry workers who are mostly casual works, identifying the 300,000 and offering some assistance till such time the spread is controlled may be an answer, the authorities can look at.
