The Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera today, July 27, relinquished naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.
Rear Admiral Perera, who is celebrating his 55th birthday today, received warm wishes from the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Y. N. Jayarathna on behalf of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and the Board of Management before the senior officer was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions.
Subsequently, the customary naval send-off ceremony saw fellow naval officers making their formal farewells to the outgoing officer and sending him off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of senior and junior sailors.
Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera, who joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 14th intake in the year 1986, has held a number of key appointments during his distinguished naval career. Among them, Fund Manager of the ‘Naviru Saviya’ Health Care Scheme & Deputy Director Naval Weapon, Deputy Director Naval Inspectorate & Senior Air Defence Coordinator, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Director Naval Training & Director Naval Weapon, Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officers of Trincomalee Port, Director Commercial Explosive Fire Arms and Ammunitions Procurement Unit (CEFAP), Director Naval Projects & Plans, Commander Southeastern, Northwestern and Eastern Naval Areas, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy stood prominent.
