Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President Grace the Student Parliament of Buduruwagala Maha Vidyalaya held at the President’s Secretariat.

The Student Parliament of the Buduruwagala Maha Vidyalaya, Monaragala was held recently (17) at the Presidential Secretariat. The President, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mr. Saman Ekanayake, Secretary to the President, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of Parliament, Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, Mr. Hansa Abeyratne, Assistant Secretary General of Parliament, M. Jayalath Perera, Director Legislative Servises / Director Communication (Acting) and Major Nadika Dangolla, Assistant Director of the Presidential Secretariat, were present at this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, The President, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe elaborated on the rich history of the old parliament building and the evolution of the Parliamentary system. Furthermore, the President also gave the opportunity for students to ask any questions they may have.

Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of Parliament provided an extensive overview of the Parliamentary process. Apart from educating school children of the Parliamentary system, the Secretary General emphasized that student parliaments are carried out with the intention of developing unity, cooperation and compassion among our future generation in alignment with the concept of the President, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe.

She further highlighted that all these measures are taken to connect the Parliament with the citizens of the nation and bring citizens and the Parliament closer to each other.

Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament addressing the students explained the main functions of the Parliament. Thereafter, the Deputy Secretary General engaged in a question-and-answer session with the students of the Buduruwagala Maha Vidyalaya.


Mr. H. M. U. B. Maherath, Principal of the Buduruwagala Maha Vidyalaya pointed out the importance of such programmes and stated that through the concept of student Parliament, children will have the opportunity to develop knowledge regarding the responsibility of the Parliament.

The Parliament of Sri Lanka presented certificates and books to Buduruwagala Maha Vidyalaya, Monaragala. The school thereafter presented a commemorative plaque to the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and to the honored guests who were present.

For this programme organized by the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Presidential Secretariat, the officials of the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, were also present.
