A new house constructed utilizing Defence Ministry’s ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ funds was vested in a
war veteran family today (Jan 21) during a brief ceremony graced by the Defence Secretary as the
Chief Guest at Alupola, Wewalwatta in Ratnapura. The beloved family of Lance Corporal W Dharmarathna, a war hero who sacrificed his life for the freedom of our motherland received financial aids from the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ and labour assistance of the Sri Lanka Army’s 4 Engineer Service Regiment troops to complete the partially built house.
The Defence Secretary symbolically handed over the keys of their new house to the wife of Lance
Corporal Dharmarathna, Mrs. A P Chamila and son Thimira Nimesh Daluwaththa during the
occasion and the new house was warmed amidst religious observances of venerable maha sanga.
Lance Corporal Dharmarathna of 6 Sri Lanka National Guard had succumbed to his injuries after
a terrorist attack at Vavuniya Kovil Puliyankulam in 2001.
Accordingly, the dream of completing the partially built house of the war veteran family became a
reality under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ fund. Tri forces members and families are given complete and partial grants under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ initiative for construction of their houses or to complete partially built houses while the labour support is provided by the military. Ven. maha sanga, Defence Ministry’s Additional Secretary – Administration Mr. Gamini Mahagamage, Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Senarath Yapa, Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Maj. Gen. Dinesh Nanayakkara, Centre Commandants of Army’s Gamunu Regiment and Sri Lanka National Guard, Defence Ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Administration, senior military officers and family members of the beneficiary were also present at the occasion.
