Matale Hindu National School emerged Champs in the boys under 18 “B ” division inter Schools Hockey
Matale Hindu National School stickers clinched the boys under 18 inter schools ” B ” division Hockey championship, which was conducted by the Sri- Lanka Schools Hockey Association and held in Matara recently.
Indrawansa Herath, an Ex National Hockey player and presently an International umpire who became the deputy Principal of this School took the reins as the coach and with the able support of the Principal, Mr. Ganesha Moorthy, the other deputy Principal Mr. V. Rajendran and the POG Sampath Preethiwardena , they as a team got together and worked tirelessly to bring this achievement on behalf of the school.
Taking part in this tournament, they beat Bandaranayake College, Gampaha by 2 goals to nil ( B Gogulnath 2 ), Presidents College, Maharagama by 1 goal to nil ( R. Kogul ), Vidyaloka College, Galle by 2 goals to nil ( B. Gogulnath 2 ), Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo by 4 goals to nil ( B. Gogulnath 2, R. Kogul 2 ), Zahira College, Colombo by 2 goals to 1 ( B. Gogulnath 2 ).
In the Semifinal, they beat St. Thomas College, Guruthalawa by 5 goals to nil ( R. Kogul 2, B. Gogulnath 1, R.Himesh 1 and R. Milukshan 1 ).
In the final, they beat St. Thomas College, Matara by 1 goal to nil ( B. Gogulnath) and B.Sri Senudaran of Matale Hindu National School was adjudged as the best goal keeper.
