Kumar Sangakkara has been inducted into the International Cricket council (ICC) Hall of Fame. There were 10 cricket icons that were inducted last Sunday.
With the new inductions the total went up to 103 legends of Test Cricket to be included in the list. Such is done as a result of recognition and the significant contributions they have made to the game of Test Cricket.
The ICC has announced the special edition intake in celebration of the prestigious history of Test cricket, and to coincide with the first ever ICC World Test Championship Final between New Zealand and India.
The players were picked from 5 different eras, namely the Early Cricket Era (pre-1918), Inter-war Era (1918 – 1945), Postwar Era (1946 – 1970), ODI Era (1971 – 1995) and Modern Cricket Era (1996 – 2015).
Sangakkara is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the sport and has been among the top three batsmen in ICC rankings across all three formats of the game at various stages during his international career.
Out of the Sri Lankan Cricketers, Kumar Sangakkara is the second player after Muttiah Muralitharan to make it to the elite list.
