KOICA – AKOFE Donated Essential Medical Equipment to combat COVID19

Colombo 19 May 2021- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) the grant aid division of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka together with the Alumni Association of KOICA Fellows (AKOFE) held a donation ceremony to provide essential medical equipment to the Divisional hospital in Kosgama on 18th May 2021. AKOFE is an association that consists of alumni who have completed KOICA fellowship programmes in Korea to build capacity in their areas.

The donation was consisted of the Microscope, medical centrifuges and pulse oximeters. Through this support it is aim to establish laboratory facilities for the COVID patients in the Kosgama Divisional hospital. There are about more than 60 COVID patients are currently being treated in this hospital.

Since the number of positive cases rises across the country, hospitals are having difficulties in supporting patients due to the lack of medical facilities. Therefore, KOICA – AKOFE threw their solidarity behind this urgent national drive and supported Kosgama divisional hospital.

KOICA country director Ms. Kang Youn Hwa stated that “It has been more than one year that we are battling with this Coronavirus and the entire world has been suffering from the pandemic. Therefore, in this difficult period of time, we must come together to help each other. So, as a true friend, we are pleased to be able to support Sri Lanka with this donation, which is assisting medical staff at the frontline of the fight against the COVID19.”

The Medical Officer in charge of the hospital, Dr. R.C Gonalagoda highly appreciated the donation by extending his deepest gratefulness to KOICA Sri Lanka and the government of Korea for the continuous support amid the pandemic. Also, he appreciated AKOFE for organizing this donation which is very essential in this unprecedented time.
