“Although adverse health conditions prevented us from celebrating last year’s New Year, this year all of us together have made it possible to enjoy the New Year festivities, duly observing the age-old customs and traditions while adhering to health guidelines,” said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his wish for the New Year on Wednesday, April 14.
“It is my hope and expectation that all citizens without any discrimination will join the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations with fresh hopes, determination, and righteous thoughts,” he added.
“May the dawn of Sinhala and Tamil New Year bring happiness, good health, and prosperity to all!” he also said.
The President and the First Lady observed customs for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at home, according to a post on the President’s Official Facebook Page.
“As adults, it is our duty and responsibility to pass on to the next generation the customs associated with the New Year, which are auspicious in Sri Lankan culture,” the post added.
