The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana in the capacity
of President Air Force Sports Council (AFSC) graced a special felicitation ceremony
which was held this morning (06) at Air Force Headquarters. SLAF Sportsmen and
Sportswomen in the disciplines of Athletics (Men’s), Archery (Women’s), Badminton
(Women’s), Golf (Men’s) and Squash (Men’s) were felicitated during the ceremony.
The personnel from these sporting disciplines have performed outstandingly at
Defence Services Games and at National Sports Championships.
For the first time in the history, a SLAF Athlete, Leading Aircraftman Shivarajan M
was able to win the gold medal at the marathon event of the National Sports Festival.
The SLAF Golf Team was able to secure the Defence Service Title this year. The
SLAF Womens Badminton Team was able to secure the Defence Services Title as
well. The SLAF Men’s Team was able to secure this year Defence Services Squash
Title while the Women’s Archery Team was able to secure this years Defence
Services Title as well.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of
Management along with Chairmen, Secretaries, Managers and a cross section of
players of SLAF Sports Disciplines.
