To mark this inaugural event, a press conference was held by the organizers, Colombo Municipal Council, play ground department at the BRC auditorium on the 18th of March.
This tournament will be worked off from 1st -4th April commencing from 08.00am onwards and will be played at the Astro Turf Reid Avenue, Colombo 7 ,with a grand opening opening ceremony on the 1st at 07.00am
Twelve teams are due to take part in this tournament which will be divided into 4 groups and on a league basis.
In group “A” Old D.S.Sports Club, Mastaris SC Matale, BRC Sports Club, “B” Kandy HA, Airforce, Army, “C” Old Royal SC, Old Nalandians SC, Navy, “D” CH & FC, Colombo Municipal Council and Police will battle out for this prestigious Trophy.
The initiative was taken by the Commissioner, Mrs. Roshanie Dissanayake (Attorney at Law),
with the keen interest of Mr. Mashanka Liyanage (Director Sports & Recreation) keeping in mind the valuable asset behind this game, Mr.M.J.M.Naushad who is an Ex National player and an Asian Umpire (Hockey Secretary) will do a wonderful job to make this a success according to the guidelines given by the Health Ministry to conduct this tournament
This is mainly to popularize and develop Hockey in Sri-Lanka and mainly the youngsters in Colombo, to take an keen interest and this Sport to be recognized in the International arena..
Sport Hockey, has to be thankful to the organizers, Colombo Municipal Council and for the Sponsors MAF Cargo , My Cola and SLT offering fabulous prizes to the Winners, Runners up and the 3rd place and keep this game alive.
