Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the government has decided to complete the vaccination of the country’s population by May. Speaking during a special discussion at the Tourism Ministry, he said Sri Lanka will become safe for tourists to visit, with no COVID-19 risk.
He added that Sri Lanka may also become one of the first countries in the world to achieve such a feat. He further said that the tourism industry in Sri Lanka is showing signs of a rebound to its former state with tourist arrivals on the incline again. He said that tourists were pleased to see that the government was taking proactive steps to ensure that they had a safe stay.
“Although the vaccination is being administered to officers of the Tri-Forces and frontline health workers, it is envisioned that this vaccine would be given to all eligible by the end of May,” the Minister said.
“We are working on increasing tourist arrivals from countries such as India, Germany and Italy as well,” he also said.
