Moratuwa Mayor, Samanlal Fernando, remanded till June 11

Moratuwa Mayor, Samanlal Fernando, who was arrested yesterday, May 28, for allegedly threatening a female doctor and obstructing duties of officials, has been remanded till June 11 by the Moratuwa Magistrate.

Police Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana said the Mayor was arrested this morning after he surrendered to the Mount Lavinia Police.

The Mayor had allegedly threatened the female doctor, who had gone to administer Sinopharm vaccines to the people in Moratuwa and Moratumulla Grama Niladhari Divisions.

It is reported that a heated exchange of words had taken place between the Mayor and the doctor as the doctor had refused to give the vaccine according to the list given by the Mayor.

DIG Rohana said that investigations have been launched into a complaint lodged by the doctor with the Mount Lavinia Police.
