General Election after May 14, says Election Commission

The Election Commission has gazetted that it will set a new date for the forthcoming general election after May 14.

The Election Commission was compelled to postpone the election following the announcement of several measures by the government in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Election Commissioner, Mahinda Deshapriya said that a date would be announced in the near future as the secretariat was not in a position to hold elections on April 25 as previously announced.
