Parliamentary election postponed indefinitely

The Election Commission (EC) has postponed the parliamentary election which was scheduled for April 25.

Addressing a press conference, Mahinda Deshapriya, Chairman of the Election Commission said that the EC would not be able to conduct the election on April 25 even if the WHO said Sri Lanka was free of this virus.

“Whether we can have the vote in May, June or July will depend on how quickly the virus can be tackled,” Mr. Deshapriya said.

The EC consists of Mahinda Deshapriya (Chairman), Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole and President’s Counsel, Nalin Abeysekera.
