Sri Lanka wins Bronze in SAG Ladies and men ‘s Squash

Sri Lanka played excellent squash to seal the bronze medals in both men’s and women’s SAG squash played at Kathmandu.

Sri Lanka beat Nepal 3/0 with Top seed Mihiliya Methsarani winning her match with much ease 11/5,11/4, 11/5. In the 2nd game Sameera Deen played a good game to beat Nepalese No 3 after a fighting encounter which Sameera had the better off the Nepali at the end, winning in a 4 setter 11/5, 11/7, 11/7, 11/7.

The Sri Lanka’s star performer in the Ladies at the SAG, Fathoum Iseerdeen had her game  done and dusted, when she beat the Nepali no 2 Ranked in straight sets 11/4, 11/8, 11/6 to seal the Bronze for Sri Lanka.

The Squash tournament concluded today with a lot of Positives for Sri Lanka where Sri Lanka has shown this part of the world what talent we possess. As the concluding remark during the vote of Thanks the President of the Nepali Squash Racket Association rightly said ‘ when Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh play Pakistan and India it’s like a country in Europe, Germany, France or Italy playing Soccer with us as they are so good and are world powers and it’s always good to play against such high ranked quality Squash players as we learn and keep improving each time we play ’ said the Nepal Squash Racket Association President MR Kishore Mahajen.

Looking at the future of Sri Lanka Squash, it’s a learning experience for our Men /Women  and hope this tournament would be a stepping stone for development, setting the platform to take Sri Lanka Squash to the next level.
