The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne who is on an official visit to Pakistan as the head of the delegation attending the 2nd round of Pakistan-Sri Lanka Armed Forces Defence Dialogue, was warmly welcomed by the Secretary Defence of Pakistan, Lieutenant General (Retd) Ikram ul Haq at the Ministry of Defence, in Rawalpindi. The CDS along with Additional Secretary (Defence), Senior Assistant Secretary (Defence) and the flag ranked officers from the tri-services comprised the Sri Lankan delegation. A review of important matters on operational and training aspects relevant to both countries in the current year and the matters in the schedule for the year 2020 were discussed.
The CDS also called on General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee of Pakistan Armed Forces and Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, the Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force yesterday (5th) at Joint Services Head Quarters and the Air Force Headquarters respectively. Both officers warmly welcomed the CDS, accordingly, the full Guards of Honour, in keeping with the military traditions. Cordial discussions were held on the matters of mutual concerned and the mementos were exchanged signifying the occasions.
Admiral Wijegunaratne played a significant role in strengthening bi-lateral military cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and recently awarded the distinguished medal Nishan-I-Imtiaz (military), by the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi.
