First time in History, Governor arranges A University Course for Farmers
Governor of Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan said there would be a time when the farmers of the province will be asked like which university you have been graduated from.
For the first time in history, an event of launching a three-month training programme for the farmers in the Northern Province was held at the auditorium of the Agriculture Faculty of Jaffna University which is located in Kilinochchi today (09). The Governor addressed at the event through digital communication technology.
Thirty farmers have been selected for the basic certification course. This course covers the uses of machines, the knowledge of how to operate them, and management knowledge.
“Today is an important day not only for the university society and farmers but also the agriculture sector of the Northern Province.” He added further.
Protecting farmers is like protecting our civilization. Human efforts have reached the sky in the 21st century. The food security is the major factor behind all such initiatives. Without it, human civilization would be extinct. Therefore, we should focus on food production.
This food production needs to be prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century. The Governor pointed out that agriculture with scientific knowledge and should be taken towards the laity. He expressed his wishes to the students who have been selected for this course.
It should be noted that this training course is being carried out under the concept of Governor of the Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan with the sponsorship of Northern Province Governor’s Secretariat and the Kelaniya Cables Company at the Agriculture Faculty of Jaffna University.
