SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara termed the ongoing talks between the SLFP and SLPP as positive.
Addressing the weekly media briefing held at the SLFP Headquarters yesterday, Jayasekara said that the policies of the two parties are closely similar and the SLPP Presidential Candidate former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and SLPP National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa have also accepted certain policies proposed by the SLFP. Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a candidate with positive vision for the future of the country, he said.
The MP stated that what the country needs is a national leader who respects and protects the country’s resources. As a middle path political party, the SLFP will never support liberal and racist political forces.
MP Jayasekara further said that under the present government, the country has become a breakaway kite and only the next President can change this situation.
He charged that the entire public administration system of the country has collapsed.
Having considered various issues pertaining to the administration of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation the decision was taken by the President to take the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation under his purview, Jayasekara said.
Inoka Sathyangani was appointed as the SLRC Chairperson when Minister Mangala Samaraweera headed the media portfolio. However in June this year, Non-Cabinet Media Minister Ruwan Wijewardene appointed Sanjeewa Wijegunawardene as SLRC head, but he was unable to carry out his duties. Later, Kelum Palitha Maheeratne was appointed to the post.
“Sathyangani was appointed with the approval of the committee appointed by the President to decide on appointments of chairmen and directors to State-owned enterprises and the other two had been appointed without the approval of this committee.” he charged.
SLFP Media Spokesman Weerakumara Dissanayake and former Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya also participated in this occasion.
