Soldiers rescue mother, two children from drowning

Two soldiers of 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment serving the 66 Division under the Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi rescued a mother and her two children who were drowning in the Arasapurakulam tank in Arasapurakulam on Saturday afternoon.
The soldiers were passing by the tank when they suddenly heard the drowning woman and her two children who were shouting for help. Both soldiers, had jumped into the tank waters and had safely brought ashore the woman and children in distress.
The mother and the two children had gone to the tank to have a bath and the strong currents had swept them away.
The two soldiers involved in the incident are Lance Corporal D.G.S Amarasiri and Lance Corporal T.G.J.P Ariyarathne.
The mother and the two children had been later taken to the  Pooneryn Hospital.
They had been later transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment on medical advice, a spokesman for the Army said.
