Supreme Court fixes Dr. Shafi’s FR petition for Sept. 27

By Rose Kenny
The Supreme Court has postponed the  fundamental rights petition filed by Kurunegala teaching hospital doctor Mohamed Shafi against his detention and arrest, until September 27.

Accordingly, a three-member judge bench comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew, Prasanna Jayawardena, and Vijith Malalgoda announced that the amended petition would be taken up during the next hearing.

Dr. Shafi was released on bail  last month following his arrest in May over charges of sterilizing women without their consent,  illegally acquiring assets and links to terrorism.

However, the CID had previously notified the court that no evidence had been found to implicate Dr. Shafi to any of these allegations.
