Pharmacies should issue bills for medicine purchases

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says all pharmacies are required to issue a bill to consumers for purchases of medicines.

The relevant regulations have been gazetted in the Consumer Authority Act and the relevant new regulations have been added to the new Act of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

Consumers have complained to the Minister of Health that some pharmacies in the island do not issue receipts for the medicines purchased from them.

The Health Minister has focused his attention on the matter and instructed the National Medicines Regulatory Authority to inspect all pharmacies island wide and instruct them to issue receipts.

The Health Minister has instructed the NMRA during the inspections of the pharmacies to ensure that the date of expiry, date of manufacture and the price of drugs are printed on the product packages.
