Shammi Silva was elected as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket during the SLC elections held at the Ministry of Sports this morning ( 21st Feb). The new President Shammi Silva was able to muster 83 votes Out of 142 to become President.
Talking to the media, Former Sri Lanka Captain and contestant for the post of Vice President Arjuna Ranatunge said ” its a pity that the other party who had so many allegations have now come into power to run Sri Lanka Cricket. As a result, Sri Lanka Cricket and its stakeholders may get badly affected”
Answering a question by the sundayreader.lk, the new President Shammi Silva said ‘ If someone is making allegations against us saying we have paid money to people to come and vote for us, its baseless and the Credibility of such depends based on what can be proven”
Honorable Minister of Sports Harin Fernando stated that he has spoken and consulted Top Sri Lanka Cricketers Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena, Aravinda De Silva and Murali about the future of Sri Lanka Cricket and as per their input, certain changes are being considered where a Cabinet paper is being Drafted to do changes to the system.
whatever the circumstances were, SLC was able to have its elections and is seen as a positive sign for the future of the game and hope this will bring about the much needed stability to the Sri Lanka side who is at the moment trying their level best to get a series wing in south African soil. Given the scenario and the mindset the ‘Team Sri Lanka’ is in, and as we have highlighted before its a mater of time that we see the Lions showcasing an yet another stunning performance in South Africa.
